The literal meaning of Sahastradhara in English is "The Thousand Fold" spring. Sahastradhara is a beautiful picnic spot located some distance from Dehradun. Here the water falling from the hill has been stored naturally and opened for the entertainment of the tourists. At Sahastradhara, there are small caves inside the hill at a short distance, which cannot be seen from the outside. From inside these caves, a light-light drizzle of rain keeps on dripping, which adds charm to this cave.


Story Behind Sahastradhara

There is also an ancient Drona cave here. According to the scriptures, Guru Dronacharya did penance for Lord Shiva here. After which thousand streams appeared. For this reason, it is called Sahastradhara. Sahastradhara Falls is located near Rajpur village near Dehradun. Sulfur water is present here, due to which not only Indians but foreigners come to bathe. It is said that any serious skin disease or disorder can be cured by taking a bath in sulfur water. You can also consume this water which is effective in curing stomach disease.


Distance to Sahastradhara Falls?

Sahastradhara is about 12 km from Ghanta Ghar and if you are coming from outside Uttarakhand then it is just 15 km from ISBT. And it is 16 kilometers away from the railway station. You can go by your private vehicle to reach Sahastradhara otherwise local city bus facility is also available for this.

When and how to go to Sahastradhara?

If you want to go to Sahastradhara by bus, then there is a bus for Sahastradhara from the parade ground near Ghanta Ghar. The fare of which is only Rs.25/person which takes you to Sahastradhara in 20 minutes. If you are coming by train, then you will have to take a private taxi or cab from the railway station.

After that, you can reach the parade ground and you can take a bus from there to Sahastradhara. There is no direct bus from Bus Stand (ISBT) to Sahastradhara. You can either hire a taxi or book a cab. Which will take you to the parade ground, then you will get a bus from here to Sahastradhara.


Other things related to Sahastradhara

No charge is taken from you for taking bath in Sahastradhara. If you take a tube or clothes on rent for yourself or someone else, then you are charged for this. If you have not brought food and drink with you, then there are many shops and restaurants from where you can eat anything fast food, etc. If you want to enjoy it even more, you can go up the hill via ropeway and have food and drinks.
